A lot of people contact me to ask where they can view my jewellery so I’m happy to announce that jewellery from Krogholm right now is displayed at Wills Domain.

To you who do not already know what Wills Domain is then I can inform you that it is a well known winery located near Dunsborough and Yallingup in the Margaret River Wine Region of Western Australia.

Wills Domain has a fabulous gourmet restaurant with a stunning view overlooking the fields of wines. Adjoining is a tasteful gallery displaying various artworks and a beautiful selection of French lifestyle items. The latest addition in the gallery is a display of Krogholm jewellery in semi-precious stones and unique handcrafted sterling silver pendants, rings and bangles.

How to keep your Silver Jewellery beautiful – Dunsborough

Silver jewellery does tarnish over time but there are several things you can do to make sure your jewellery stays beautiful for longer and make the job of cleaning jewellery easier.

First of all you should store your jewellery separately so they do not scratch one another. Secondly you should store your jewellery in a dark and airtight space. Use a jewellery box, soft pouch or zip locked plastic bag.

Silver emits sulphur which is part of the tarnishing process but you have several options to absorb this. You can buy tarnish absorbing cloths and anti tarnish strips that you can cut out and put in each jewellery box. The strips will last for ½-1 year and the cloth can last for years.

Another cheaper option is to put in a piece of chalk or one of the little moisture absorbent bags you find when purchasing shoes, bags and so on. They will last for a couple of months so they do need to be changed more often but is cheaper/free.

When you purchase something where one of the little moisture absorbent bags are included save the bag in a plastic bag until you need it so it does not absorb any moisture beforehand.

It is also possible to buy tarnish resistant jewellery boxes. But a lot of them have been chemically treated and therefore have a chemical layer that will wear off in time. The chemicals are transferred to your jewellery and thereby your skin. You could be allergic to these chemicals and none of us really want to be in contact with chemicals if we do not have to. But some boxes are safe to use.

Humidity, makeup, perfume, lotions and so on also tarnish our silver jewellery so make sure to take off your jewellery before showering and not to put them back on before you have applied lotion, done your hair and put on that lovely perfume. To make your jewellery stay pretty for longer you should wipe them clean of makeup, lotion, skin oils and so on before putting them back in the box.

All the products we use daily can build up a very dull surface on the jewellery that is difficult to remove.

Cleaning Jewellery
Silver jewellery will need cleaning from time to time. If it is a shiny piece I use a soft cloth made for polishing. The one I use right now have been purchased in Coles and is working fine for me. If it is a matt piece I use an old soft toothbrush, a little bit of detergent and warm water. I have heard that some detergents can leave residue on silver but so far I have not come across one. This method is also possible to use on the shinier pieces but be careful not to scratch it. Moving the toothbrush back and forth in straight motions is safer and less visible than circular movements.

If your jewellery have been damaged or tarnished so much you are not able to clean it yourself you can always contact a jeweller/jewellery artist who will be able to help in many cases. They can often remove scratches and redo the surface but be aware this is the pricy option, not always possible and you cannot keep on doing this again and again so take good care of your jewellery.

Well this is how I take care of my jewellery. Remember I’m not educated within this field so wether you choose to follow my advise or not is up to you and at your own risk.

Silver Owl Pendant – Jewellery Dunsborough

Finished Silver Owl Pendant DunsboroughThe other day on the markets at Palmers Winery in Dunsborough I met a charming gentleman who put in a custom order for an owl pendant in sterling silver as a present to his daughter.

I spend a couple of days thinking about the design, drawing a couple of rough sketches and then began the production. I was very pleased with the result and fortunately so was the customer.

I have created a little photo album showing some of the steps I go through when producing a piece of silver jewellery since I thought it could be of interest to some.

Dunsborough Arts Festival – Jewellery

The Dunsborough Arts Festival is taking place this Sunday March 4th from 9am to 1pm in Centennial Park. The visitors are encouraged to actively participate in the festival via a selection of percussion and circus workshops. There will also be FIMO making for the kids and an x-factor competition. If you are in a less active mood I suggest you take a stroll on the foreshore while enjoying the sight of the diverse display of arts.

The festival will also have a market where it is possible to talk to the artists, view and purchase different kinds of art.

Krogholm has been invited to take part in the festival and will be at the market displaying and selling jewellery in silver and semi-precious stones. The necklaces and bracelets in sterling silver combined with semi-precious stones are fairly new on the market but are already very popular. I still have a selection of pendants, rings and bangles in sterling silver that I expand constantly to keep up with the demand. It is time consuming work since every piece is a handmade “one of” but this is also why I love what I do.

I have not participated in the Arts Festival before so I am very excited to be at the event as an artist and to meet my lovely Semi-precious necklace Dunsboroughcustomers in person.

Inspiring and useful coaching for women in business

I have for a while been member of a lovely group of ladies from the South West that are all running a business. Some of them have just started their business and others have many years of experience.

It is hard at times having a business and we all need someone to bounce of ideas or receive support from. As a woman it can be especially tough since we are also expected to joggle household and family and even though we live in a modern society we still face old fashionedopinions and difficulties.

In South West Business Women Connect we only face a positive attitude, inspiration and support. It is a place to turn to whenever times are hard and we have hit the wall but also a place to turn to when we have success stories and happy moments that we want to share with likeminded women to give back that positive feeling of being able to make it happen.

This group would never have surfaced without our two initiators Rebecca Hawkins from Inspired to Thrive and Kat Hudson. They are selflessly throwing an awful lot of time and energy into the group on a daily basis giving us all the inspiration, advice and motivation we need in order to conquer obstacles and to believe in ourselves and our business.

Kat and Rebecca have a lot of experience within this line of work since they have had their own businesses for years and have specialised in helping other women in business to succeed as well which this is their great passion and joy. They are the backbone of the group and our professional guides but they also encourage the rest of us to help each other out and organize events.

Sometimes the events are of social character where we meet for dinner or morning coffee and at other times they have a more professional aspect. A couple of weeks ago I were not very positive around my business and only saw show stoppers and the limitations of my competitors believing I could go no further than them. After attending a Mastermind meeting I have only moved forward, been determined to make my business grow and had faith in being able to make that happen.

Today I attended a No Cost Marketing Workshop where Kat and Rebecca went through a lot of ideas and ways to get your name and your product out there without paying a fortune. Ways we had not considered earlier, ways to make our network even wider and ways to get noticed by potential customers.

Krogholm at Dunsborough Markets

Krogholm had another fantastic day on the markets at Palmers Winery just outside of Dunsborough. Di from Back…in balance were slaving away all day making people loosen up and feel better. Both visitors and other stall holders were queuing to receive one of her by now famous massages.

Studio Busso had a stall not that far from us and I must say they have some very pretty and cute dresses for little girls. The people passing the stall obviously shared my opinion because when it was time for me to buy a dress right before closing time they were all gone. At the next market I will be the first customer to ensure I can give my little niece a beautiful unique handmade dress. She is special so she deserves something special that not all the other girls are wearing.

I think the market once again hit the records when it comes to visitors. I enjoyed speaking to both locals from Dunsborough, people coming down from Perth for the weekend and tourists from farther away.

Oxidized silver jewellery – Dunsborough

Thought it was time for new inspiration and I always look for ways to improve my skills. I therefore attended a jewellery course with Rita Winkler last weekend and I must say it is highly recommended. She is very skilled and a very good teacher. She managed to educate both beginners and a bit more experienced people like me.

I left with a good feeling after a productive weekend with a lot of nice women and am now ready to try out new techniques and designs in my own workshop. The jewellery that will come out of this experience will be a lot more alive e.g. using 3 dimensional design, reticulation and oxidation.

Bangles – Dunsborough

I was so lucky this Christmas to receive the tools for making bangles, and I have been so sad that I have not had time to use them before now. For the past two evenings I have been working in my workshop here in Dunsborough and have now finished my first three bangles.

I have posted them to the website and facebook and would love some feedback and comments.

Jewellery at Palmer Wines Farmer Fresh Market

The last Farmer Fresh Market at Palmer Wines just outside Dunsborough was a huge success with over 3000 visitors. I have therefore decided to be a regular face at the market. Next event is already on Sunday the 12th where I will bring a whole new collection of jewellery.

Agate and Onyx BraceletNot only are there a few new bangles in Sterling Silver there is also Necklaces, Bracelets and Earrings made from Semi-Precious Stones and Sterling Silver. Agate in different colours is a repeating part of the jewellery but also Coral, Onyx and Amazonite have been used. I’m hoping the new jewellery will turn out to be a success so I can have the pleasure of producing more and use a wider range of stones in the future.
